The Mario Lemieux Foundation was founded in 1993. Mario Lemiieux who is a National Hockey League player started the foundation after he successfully fought Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. In addition, Mario and his wife, Nathalie had a premature baby. The experience sparked the idea of Austin’s Playroom Project that builds playrooms in hospitals, which expanded Mario’s foundation in 2000.

There are many projects and fundraisers that the foundation supports, including those for blood cancers like lymphoma.
